CHAPPELL ROAN
19.08.2025
Hallenstadion Zurich
- only Swiss show -
Powerful pop hooks, sex positivity, honest songwriting and a good dose of glitter make up the world of Chappell Roan, the multi-faceted pop artist who is taking the world by storm. She will be performing at the Hallenstadion Zurich on 19.08.2025.
The LA-based singer, songwriter and performer shot to fame with her debut album "The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess" from 2023, a colorful story of self-discovery that made it onto several yearly best lists (Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Billboard, TIME and others). With her larger-than-life performances surrounding the album, she quickly built a passionate community of listeners, all of whom sell out her headlining shows within hours and scream along to her bold anthems. Rather than resting on her laurels, she has consciously built her own fantastic musical universe that celebrates queer expression and encourages people to be themselves - and that everyone wants to immerse themselves in.
Chappell is now gearing up for another momentous year. The headlining tour through the USA in spring and summer is already sold out. This follows her rousing appearance on "The Colbert Show" where she performed "Red Wine Supernova" and made her television debut, as well as a series of spring shows opening for Olivia Rodrigo on the GUTS tour. Chappell also performed her electrifying voice for the first time at Coachella in April, kicking off a string of festival appearances throughout the year, including Hangout, Boston Calling, Governors Ball, Pittsburgh Pride, Bonnaroo and Hinterland. Her cult following is eager to see what spectacular outfits Chappell will bring to the stage - after all, this is the girl who appeared on the red carpet at the 2024 Grammys with a pig nose.
For her own drag-inspired headlining shows, Chappell sets dress themes and asks attendees from each city to show up in their own fabulous outfits - whether it's the "Pink Pony Club" theme with pink rhinestones and cowgirl outfits or the "My Kink Is Karma" theme in red and black. These popular spectator guidelines ensure that every evening is a big party where fans can really let off steam. "It feels like a community," says Chappell about her shows. "You get to dress up crazy because everyone else is doing it too."
With the critical success of "The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess," Chappell established herself as a groundbreaking songwriter who can combine imagination with heartfelt self-reflection. Co-written by Chappell with producer Dan Nigro (Olivia Rodrigo), the project charts her journey of falling queerly in love for the first time and embracing all the messy and imperfect moments of that love. To express the turbulent time of her coming-of-age, the album draws on all genres, from euphoric dance-pop to introspective acoustic guitar ballads, country-pop and punky new wave. "With this album, I wanted to prove that women in pop music are multidimensional," says Chappell. "It's important to me to show that I'm not just some sexy pop star, but that I'm just as immersed in my pain as any other woman."
Chappell grew up in Willard, Missouri, and suppressed her feelings about her sexuality due to her Christian upbringing. Nevertheless, she knew early on that she wanted to be an entertainer, took acting lessons as a child, started playing piano at the age of 12 and became known as "the singer" in high school. At 16, she released "Die Young", a melancholic folk hit that landed her a record deal with a major label, her debut EP "School Nights" in 2017 and her move to LA in 2018. "Back then, I liked being mysterious and serious," she says.
However, Chappell Roan, in all her fabulous glory, only really began to take shape with 2020's synth-pop hit "Pink Pony Club", a semi-autobiographical anthem about a small-town girl who finds belonging in a West Hollywood go-go bar. Inspired by a visit to a gay bar in LA, the song was named "Song of the Summer" by Vulture. But soon after, Chappell was back on the road as an independent artist. Determined to make it without a record label, her 2022 singles "Naked in Manhattan," "My Kink Is Karma" and "Casual" built a steadily growing audience that praised her for her "dramatic songs and meticulously crafted melodies" (LA Times). Prior to the release of "Midwest Princess," she signed with Nigros Amusement Records, a label of Island Records, and continued her career fueled by her creative vision and integrity.
Inspired by Bratz dolls, burlesque and Hannah Montana, the Chappell-Roan universe is now based on all the colorful, glittery and fun things Chappell loved as a child. "I'm just trying to honor my inner child who thought she wasn't worth anything and prove to her that she's actually a really good person," she sums up.
