Tom Odell live at Zurich's Hallenstadion soon
With his new studio album "A Wonderful Life", Tom Odell has created a work that embodies a universal spirit of empathetic, total honesty; an album that looks at the fractured landscape of modern, fractured society and finds dys- topia and doom, but also beauty and hope.
Odell recently toured arenas across Europe supporting Billie Eilish and will return to many of the same venues later this year as a headliner as part of a 27-date arena tour across the UK and Europe.
To coincide with the announcement of the album, Tom is releasing a new single, "Don't Cry, Put Your Head On My Shoulder". The cinematic guitar-accompanied lullaby soon soars and has all the anthemic qualities that suggest Tom and his audience will be bathed in the light of cell phone flashlights and lighters when it becomes a regular part of his live set.
The album's haunting title track "Black Friday" has been clicked on almost 700 million times since its release in late 2023, while his breakthrough hit "Another Love" from 2012 has been listened to over three billion times on Spotify alone. On TikTok, the song has spent the last two years climbing into the top 50 of the Billboard TikTok charts and backing millions of TikTok videos. As a result, the song is one of the 25 most-streamed songs of all time on Spotify.
But the streaming numbers and the many awards are only part of the story of this talented musician who manages to touch the hearts of millions of people around the world with his music. This is one reason why both young (The Last Dinner Party, Billie Eilish, AURORA) and seasoned artists (Cat Stevens, Elton John) have expressed their love and support for his work.
"A Wonderful Life" feels like a significant body of work from a musician at the top of his game and growing in popularity by the day. Especially since the pandemic and the 2021 album "Monsters", the rawness in his songwriting has come to the forefront and a whole new generation of fans have found solace in his music.
"Living and writing honestly about it is such an important part of my life now. And I feel like if I have any obligation at all, it's to keep doing that," - said Odell.
