Stephen Wilson Jr.'s path from the mountains of southern Indiana to Nashville, Tennessee, was a winding road with many detours: he was an Indiana State Golden Gloves boxing championship finalist, a scientist and lead guitarist and songwriter in an indie rock band. In 2016, he quit his 9-to-5 job at the lab and signed a record deal with BMG Nashville, where his alchemical songwriting immediately made waves, leading to releases by Caitlyn Smith, Old Dominion, Tim McGraw, Sixpence None the Richer, Leigh Nash and others. 2023 was the breakthrough year for Wilson Jr.: he signed with Big Loud Records and released his debut double album "søn of dad" - a triumphant, genre-spanning collection of 22 songs dedicated to his late father, which he gave to the world on the fifth anniversary of his passing. The album was named the No. 1 album of 2023 by Holler, who called it "an album for the ages," and was named one of the best albums of the year by Whiskey Riff, Wide Open Country and Rolling Stone. In 2024, he made his network television debut on the NBC program "Late Night with Seth Meyers", followed by appearances on the "Late Show with Stephen Colbert" in the series "#LateShowMeMusic" and on "Later...with Jools Holland". Ahead of the one-year anniversary of "søn of dad", Wilson Jr. was also featured in an in-depth segment for "CBS Saturday Morning". So far in 2025, Wilson Jr. has released a deluxe edition of his debut album, which includes a moving rendition of "Stand By Me" that has been streamed millions of times. He just wrapped his completely sold-out "søn of dad" tour across the U.S. in 2025 and is joining HARDY on select dates from May through September on his "Jim Bob World Tour," including the final show at Madison Square Garden. This summer he will make his debut at the Newport Folk Festival and later in the year will perform at Glastonbury Music Festival, Cavendish Beach Music Festival, Boots and Hearts, Whiskey Moon and other festivals.
