Strawberry Guy live at EXIL in Zurich
When Alex Stephens (aka Strawberry Guy) self-released his debut single in 2018, he did so purely for the love of songwriting. What he didn't expect were millions of streams and an enthusiastic global fan base.
A one-man impressionist who paints majestic soundscapes, Strawberry Guy combines honest lyrics with lush arrangements to create new emotional worlds. Inspired by Romantic composers or Debussy, Ravel and other 19th century classical artists, his wonderland moves like a Monet painting, where arpeggios dance between meadows of shimmering dynamics and dramatic key changes.
Echoing the effect of nature on the emotions, as with songwriters of the 70s or the fantastic soundtracks that accompany vivid scenes in the Japanese animated films of Studio Ghibli and in video games, the landscape comes to the fore. Mo-net's picturesque "Meadow at Giverny" adorns the album cover - perhaps a reminder of the rural views of the Welsh countryside through the window of his childhood home.
Take it slow, become one with the wilderness and remember: when life gives you lemons, trade them in for strawberries.
