5G Standalone (5G SA) is available nationwide with Sunrise
5G SA is the next generation of 5G. As a standalone 5G core network, it enables end-to-end 5G connections without relying on 4G infrastructure – laying the foundation for new applications that will contribute significantly to the digital future. Companies benefit from more stable call connections, more secure data transfers, shorter latency times, real-time responsiveness and better mobile coverage indoors. Sunrise Business now offers 5G Standalone and supports you in harnessing its full potential. Let's drive your company's digital transformation together.
5G Standalone (5G SA) makes the 5G network more powerful: better coverage across the board – especially indoors – shorter response times and enhanced security for business-critical processes and applications. At the same time, 5G SA increases energy efficiency and extends the battery life of your devices. The result is: future-proof mobile connectivity wherever it matters for businesses – from the office to the campus and from transport to production.
Sunrise was the first mobile network provider in Europe to switch off its 2G and 3G networks. Our network runs exclusively on 4G and 5G, including nationwide coverage with 5G Standalone (5G SA). More than 350,000 Sunrise customers are already using 5G SA, the mobile network of the future. Chief Technical Officer Elmar Grasser explains in this video how we are continuing to push the boundaries in mobile communications.
Thanks to ultra-low latency, real-time response times and high data transfer rates tailored to your needs, 5G SA is up to ten times faster than 4G/LTE and allows you to exploit 5G's full potential when implementing your customer-specific solution (e.g. MPN slicing or IoT ). 5G SA thus promotes the efficient use of artificial intelligence, machine learning, edge computing, predictive maintenance, augmented and virtual reality. Applications respond in near real time, accelerating innovation and efficiency gains across industries, such as healthcare and automated Industry 4.0.
Until now, 5G SA was only available with Mobile Private Network (MPN) . Now we are bringing the technology directly into your everyday business life – for more stable connections, greater security and future-proofing. The migration of existing mobile subscriptions is already underway and activation on 5G SA will take place automatically as soon as the conditions below are met – without interruption, without subscription adjustments and, without additional costs:
5G SA-enabled business mobile subscription
5G SA-certified device
SUCI-enabled (e)SIM (only for Apple devices)
A 5G SA-enabled mobile subscription
An eSIM that supports 5G SA (and SUCI for Apple devices)
A 5G SA-certified device
Yes. iPhone 14 and newer iPhones require a SUCI-enabled (e)SIM and the latest network-operator settings (e.g. Sunrise 64.1 or higher). Please check this under Settings → General → About.
The following mobile subscriptions are currently 5G SA-capable (as of September 2025):
Business Swiss Connect Neighbors
Business Swiss Connect Europe+
Business Swiss Connect Global
Swiss Travel+
Business Mobile Plus XS
Not at the moment. Mobile subscriptions with a VPN/dedicated APN solution will remain limited to existing 4G/5G (NSA) connections until a suitable solution is available. Your Sunrise customer contact will inform you about the migration in due course.
There is currently no separate symbol for 5G SA. Usage depends on your subscription, (e)SIM, device and location.
Numerous current models are certified for 5G SA, for example Apple iPhone 14 and later, many Samsung Galaxy S models (S21 and later) and selected Galaxy A, Z and Tab series. The device list is continuously updated.

Yes. With a pure 5G connection, there is no need for dual connections via 4G/5G; devices consume less energy and battery life is extended by approximately 10 to 25%.
MPN slicing reserves private resources in the 5G network (e.g., bandwidth, latency) for your critical applications – with maximum security and predictable performance, e.g. for smart hospital systems, autonomous transport or large events.
Sunrise offers 5G SA nationwide. The network coverage map shows 4G, 5G high-speed and 5G SA. Check availability at your locations.
You benefit from better coverage (especially inside buildings) and a solution tailored to your needs with shorter response times for real-time applications, as well as crystal-clear telephony (VoNR) and longer battery life for end devices.
Improved mobile reception indoors
More stable connections for calls
Longer battery life for smartphones and connected devices
Real-time responsiveness
Enhanced connection security
With 5G NSA, data and voice connections are linked to the 4G network. 5G SA connections are made exclusively via 5G and this significantly improves capacity, latency and security.
MPN slicing: Guaranteed 5G SA performance for critical applications
The "slicing" functionality of 5G SA makes it possible to divide the physical 5G network into several virtual networks. With Mobile Private Network (MPN) slicing, you can reserve your own private 5G SA resources with guaranteed bandwidth, no interference, defined latency and maximum security – configured precisely for your application, locations and runtime. Ideal for autonomous transport, smart hospital systems or large events.
Largest 5G network in Switzerland
In the most important telecommunications comparison in the German-speaking region – the connect mobile network test (issue 01/2025) – the Sunrise mobile network is the only network to have been awarded the top rating of «OUTSTANDING» for the ninth time in a row. According to connect, Sunrise offers the largest 5G network*, the best mobile services, the most reliable data connections and the best quality of mobile broadband coverage in Switzerland.
*Based on measurements in the «Data» category in the 5G-specific frequency bands excluding measurements with «Dynamic Spectrum Sharing, DSS»
