Transfer a physical SIM card or eSIM
from an old iPhone to a new iPhone
SIM transfer
- As a Sunrise customer, you can independently transfer your SIM from an old iPhone to a new iPhone (with eSIM).
- Your SIM will be converted to an eSIM and directly transferred to your new device – no SIM swap is required.
- This works whether you are currently using a classic SIM card or if an eSIM profile is already installed on your previous device.
Requirements for transferring the SIM
- Your new device must be an Apple iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone 11 or newer.
- iOS 18.4 or later must be installed on both iPhones.
- Check the iOS version and update if needed: Settings > General > Software Update
- Both devices must be near each other, and Bluetooth must be enabled on both.
- You need a My Sunrise login and must have a valid ID document registered in your customer account.
Transfer during setup of a new iPhone
- When prompted to transfer your phone number during the setup of your new iPhone, simply follow the on-screen instructions to transfer your physical SIM card or eSIM.
- With iOS 26, you can transfer multiple phone numbers to your new iPhone.
- The old SIM card will be deactivated once the mobile plan on the new iPhone is activated.
Transfer to an already set-up iPhone
You can also transfer your phone number after setting up your new iPhone as follows:
- On your new iPhone, go to Settings > Mobile Service > Set up mobile data or Add eSIM.
- Select the cellular plan you want to transfer from another iPhone. If no list of numbers appears, tap “Transfer From Nearby iPhone”.
- Follow the instructions on your old iPhone. Tap “Transfer” to confirm. If prompted for a confirmation code, enter the code shown on your new iPhone.
- Wait until the cellular plan is activated on your new iPhone. The old SIM card will be automatically deactivated once the plan is active on the new device.
- If a banner with the message “Finish Setting Up Your Sunrise Mobile Plan” appears on your new iPhone, tap it.
