Listen to the radio with Sunrise

Whether at home, on the road in the car, or at work – the radio accompanies us every day. We listen to music or keep ourselves informed about world events, current traffic conditions, or the weather. It’s no wonder that the average radio usage in Switzerland is around 2 hours per day.

NOT AVAILABLE

Note

In Switzerland, analogue radio (FM radio via airwaves and cable) is gradually being replaced by the digital radio standards DAB+ and DAB+ Cable. The SRG already discontinued its FM programmes on 31 December 2024, while private radio stations will end their FM broadcasting by the end of 2026 at the latest. When purchasing a new radio device, it is therefore advisable to look for integrated DAB+ and DAB+ Cable to ensure future-proof radio reception.

Questions and answers

According to the strategy for the future of radio broadcasting in Switzerland set out by the Federal Council in 2006, all FM radio stations will be deactivated by 2026.

The migration from analogue to digital radio is based on the strategy for the future of radio broadcasting in Switzerland set out by the Federal Council in 2006. This is because digital broadcasting, either via DAB+ Cable, DAB+ or the Internet, offers numerous advantages. The broadcasting costs for the station operators are lower, while their broadcasting areas and potential number of listeners are larger. The problem of the lack of frequency spectrum is also resolved. Listeners will further benefit from better sound quality and a wider selection of programs.

For these reasons, DAB+ and DAB+ Cable will replace analogue radio (FM radio over the air and by cable) in Switzerland in the medium term, since the deactivation of all FM channels is planned by 2026.

The Sunrise cable network is being upgraded in some areas to offer super-fast Internet and TV services. This means that DAB+ technology will replace FM reception. However, customers in these areas can continue to enjoy radio stations via DAB+ Cable or with our TV Box.

The DAB+ Cable radio standard is available via a cable connection. DAB+ stands for digital audio broadcasting and offers a wide selection of channels and can display lyrics and album covers. DAB+ Cable also offers interference-free reception in basements or Minergie buildings, which is not always the case with standard radio broadcast over the air. A radio with the standard DAB+ Cable is required in order to receive the signal; conventional DAB+ is not sufficient.

Radios with DAB+ Cable can be easily identified by the «DAB+ Cable Ready» logo or the «DAB+ Cable» label.

Simply connect your DAB+ Cable Ready radio receiver to the antenna socket with a connector cable and start a channel search.
