Pat (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Perfidia (Teyana Taylor) once planted many bombs and took on US military general Lockjaw (hilariously depicted by Sean Penn). Sixteen years later, Pat must once again assemble his «French 75» revolutionary group to find his daughter, who has disappeared without a trace. The search culminates in a car chase like nothing you’ve ever seen before: it’s long, but ultimately truly powerful!
Family saga in «Downton Abbey: The Finale» – available now in the VoD Store
In England in 1930, the Crawley family saga comes to an end: the divorce of Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) causes a public scandal and forces her parents (Hugh Bonneville/Elizabeth McGovern) to take action. But further trouble looms. The third film also focuses entirely on nostalgia and is aimed at fans. A dignified, though by no means innovative finale.
Sci-fi action in «Predator: Badlands» – available in the VoD Store from 6 January
Operation successful. A deadly alien hunter becomes a hero for the first time. The young Predator Dek has always been an outsider in his clan. When he is cast out, he searches for the ultimate opponent to prove his skills to everyone. The ninth Predator spectacle (including streaming and crossover movies) almost turns out to be a Disney-style family film: powerful images, crazy scenes, but brutal fights. So it’s not for kids!
Bits and bytes in «Tron: Ares» – available in the VoD Store from 20 January
In this second sequel to the science fiction series, Jared Leto plays Ares, a computer program sent from the digital world to the real world to complete a dangerous mission. The stylish look and the booming Nine Inch Nails soundtrack alone make this event movie a real feast for the eyes and ears. The two-line story is irrelevant.
«Das Kanu des Manitu» by and starring Michael «Bully» Herbig – available now in the VoD Store
Twenty-four years after the first cinema hit, Michael «Bully» Herbig reunites Abahachi, Ranger and Dimitri for another great adventure, with the humour remaining unchanged. But we won’t reveal here what the canoe in the title is all about. There’s no question about it: the exuberant charm and humour of this latest Bully parade is not easy to resist. Thanks to the brisk editing, this colourful comedy romp is over after 90 minutes.
