After the death of T’Challa, the kingdom is facing invasion because foreign forces have their sights set on the country’s vibranium. With lead actor Chadwick Boseman dying from cancer in real life in August 2020, this «Black Panther» sequel had to be reconceived. Director Ryan Coogler has managed to create a masterful sequel, albeit 162 minutes long, that seems surprisingly «grown-up».
Amazing voice in «I Wanna Dance With Somebody»: in the VoD store from March 16
This music biopic depicts the eventful life and meteoric career of iconic R&B singer Whitney Houston, who is portrayed by Naomi Ackie with incredible authenticity. Stanley Tucci is very likeable in the role of music producer Clive Davis, who increasingly emerges as a father figure. Although the excitement wanes in the final third of the movie, it’s still a beautiful cinematic tribute.
Top animation in «Puss in Boots: The Last Wish»: in the VoD store from March 9
As we all know, a cat has nine lives. But, as Puss in Boots realizes to his horror, he’s already used up eight of them. Then again, it’s a problem that can be solved with the mystical «Last Wish». So our swashbuckling hero sets off in search of it with Kitty Softpaws, assisted by therapy dog Perro disguised as a cat. – Entertaining, fun animation to watch in your downtime.
Swiss comedy in «The Golden Years»: in the VOD store from March 2
Alice Waldvogel (Esther Gemsch) is looking forward to a quiet retirement with her husband Peter (Stefan Kurt). But the couple don’t seem to agree at all on exactly how to spend it. A cruise is supposed to set things straight, but it all turns out quite differently. – A very enjoyable portrayal of a Swiss relationship, it champions a whole new set of values and is wonderfully entertaining. Hats off!
