Coming of age in «Inside Out 2» – available in the VoD store from 8 October
Once again, Riley’s thoughts and feelings go haywire when she enters puberty. Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust now need to find a way to live with the new arrivals Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment and Ennui – whether pre-teen, teen or ex-teen, fans of all ages will get their money’s worth with this one. The fast-paced narrative style also provides great entertainment and humorously absurd film sequences that skilfully present the old and new emotional worlds. A third instalment of the franchise would be absolutely welcome.
A wave of emotions in «It Ends with Us» – available in the VoD store from 31 October
Lily (Blake Lively) hasn’t had it easy in life. After a small-town childhood, she goes to college and eventually moves to Boston to open her own flower shop. When she meets handsome surgeon Ryle Kincaid («Jane the Virgin» star Justin Baldoni), he seems to be everything she’s looking for in a partner. But appearances are deceptive. US author Colleen Hoover used the novel on which the film is based to work through her parents’ difficult relationship. One of the greatest strengths of Justin Baldoni’s emotionally powerful film lies in its deliberate exclusion.
Tornadoes in «Twisters» – available in the VoD store from 24 October
Neither a sequel nor a remake of the «Twister» original from 1996: after a dramatic tornado experience in her college days, Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar-Jones) leaves the adrenaline rush behind and opts to study the storm patterns from the safety of New York. That is, until her good friend Javi (Anthony Ramos) lures her back into field research. – Spectacular scenes compensate for dramaturgical weaknesses. And shooting star Glen Powell provides some eye candy.
Glen Powell in «Hit Man – A Killer Romance» – available in the VoD store from 16 October
In Richard Linklater’s wonderfully ironic action comedy, Professor Gary Johnson (a versatile Glen Powell) plays a contract killer employed by the police. Things get dangerous when he develops feelings for a woman (Adria Arjona) who wants to make use of his services for real. – As unlikely as the plot may sound, it’s based on true events, which the «Texas Monthly» magazine published an article about under the title «Hit Man» in 2001.
Cuddly cat in «The Garfield Movie» – available now in the VoD store
As a young stray kitten, Garfield finds a home when Jon takes him in. Now, as an adult cat, he eats everyone under the table, including his owner and co-pet Odie the dog. The house cat, who hates Mondays but loves pizza with lots of cheese and lasagne, has made himself comfortable in his cosy home. Until Garfield meets his long-lost father. – This animated film has been translated into Swiss German and features many Swiss dialects – a treat for new and existing Garfield fans.

When a colleague attacks Vincent (Karim Leklou) at work out of the blue, he thinks it’s a mere coincidence. But in the next few days, inexplicable attacks by strangers, neighbours and colleagues keep coming. In short, anyone who looks Vincent in the eye for too long runs amok and can’t remember anything afterwards. – A socio-critical low-budget thriller with a lot of irony that skilfully builds tension. A suspenseful little gem.
