«A Minecraft Movie» starring Jason Momoa – available in the VoD store from 17 July

Natalie (Emma Myers), Dawn (Danielle Brooks), Henry (Sebastian Hansen) and Garrett Garrison (Jason Momoa) enter a cubist world through a portal where you can make just about anything with building blocks, a little ingenuity and the construction expert Steve (Jack Black). And this is useful when there are all kinds of dangers lurking out there. The film adaptation of the «Minecraft» video game is a colourful adventure full of ridiculous situations and childish playfulness. For real fans!

«The Amateur» starring Rami Malek – available in the VoD store from 29 July

A CIA penpusher becomes an agent: When the wife of CIA cryptographer Charles Heller (Rami Malek) dies in a terrorist attack, the husband sees red and sets off to hunt for his wife’s killers. Using brains and not brawn he outsmarts many a bad guy. If you like classic modern spy movies like «The Bourne Identity», you’ll love this one too.

Psychological games in the thriller «Drop» – available in the VoD store from 3 July

The first date of widowed mother Violet (Meghann Fahy) turns into a nightmare when a stranger starts sending her threatening messages during dinner – even playing with her maternal instincts. This cunningly conceived thriller generates maximum suspense with comparatively little effort.

Young witch in «A Girl Named Willow» – available in the VoD store from 17 July

Loving film adaptation of the children’s book of the same name by Sabine Bohlmann: 11-year-old Willow (Ava Petsch) inherits an entire forest from her great-aunt Alwina (Sibylle Canonica). But that’s not all. She’s also inherited a little cottage in the forest and her aunt’s powers of witchcraft. And they come in very handy in the fight against real-estate speculators. The story may be simple, but the cinematic adaptation by genre specialist Mike Marzuk is very clever.

Lolita in «Parthenope» – available in the VoD store from 24 July

Parthenope (Celeste Dalla Porta) is named after a siren from Greek mythology. After meeting a tragic end, the siren was washed up on the coast of Naples, turning many men’s heads. «La grande bellezza» and «Youth» director Paolo Sorrentino focuses the camera on the dazzling Lolita. It’s not just her brother, but also the author John Cheever (Gary Oldman) who falls under her spell. Highly erotic Italianità!

Trans activist in «Love & Rage: Munroe Bergdorf» – available in the VoD store from 14 July

At a young age, Munroe Bergdorf didn’t want to be queer or black. «I just wanted to belong. Now those are the two things I love most about myself.» It’s almost impossible to watch this documentary about the transgender model and activist without admiring her resilience and grace. An important film – and certainly one to give some people today a headache.
