In «The Mummy», Brendan Fraser plays an American actor who signs up with an agency in Japan that rents out strangers to play specific roles in people’s lives. But unlike acting, this real-life role as an extra has its pitfalls too. – An emotionally charged melodrama about family members for hire, a practice that has existed in Japan since the 1980s.
Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga in «Joker: Folie à deux» – now available in the VoD store
With «Joker: Folie à deux», director Todd Phillips continues his 2019 hit film «Joker». In the early 1980s, Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) had been a failure as a clown and stand-up comedian and, following a violent incident caught on camera, ended up in Arkham Asylum in Gotham. There, Harleen Quinzel (Lady Gaga), who is in prison too, takes an interest in the Joker. The result is a whirlwind romance of the sort you really don’t see every day. A surprise even for a lot of comic fans.

The singer Mike Sardina (Hugh Jackman) has had enough of his celebrity-impersonator job at the theme park. There he meets Claire (Kate Hudson) and together they form the tribute band ‘Lightning and Thunder’, which covers Neil Diamond’s music. – It’s not just the star-studded cast, but also the rich musical score that makes this cinematic tribute to Neil Diamond so worth watching.
